Third-party test results verify energy savings with defrost skip rate of 43.6%
SUMMARY:
Testing completed by Intertek Testing Services from February 2 to March 2, 2007 confirms The Smart Defrost Kit™ (SDK) reduces the number of defrost cycles in commercial, walk-in refrigeration systems by 43.6%.
Intertek Testing Services measured and recorded the defrost skip rate of a refrigeration system located inside a local quick-serve chain restaurant. Two weeks of measurement served to benchmark the system; after the initial testing, the SDK was installed and two weeks of measurement allowed for a comparison of the number of defrost cycles with and without the SDK.
EQUIPMENT:
The equipment used for the testing was a Larkin low-profile, electric defrost unit cooler with a capacity of 12,000 BTUHs installed in an 6’ x 6’ x 8’ walk-in box with 3 glass doors. The system was completed with a Larkin 3.5 HP low temperature condensing unit with a Scroll® compressor utilizing R-404A.
